General Discussion / Re: The ebay rant.
« on: September 01, 2023, 05:16:04 AM »
I get scamming stuff all the time. It’s to the point that I don’t respond to anything. I got a email from the bank I deal with. Rather than answering the email I called the bank. It was a scam. The back wanted the email. So I forward the email to there security people.

It’s such a shame that with what we have in the world of electronics some low life folks us it to steal.

Life’s a struggle. Be safe and change your passwords often.

I play O gauge toy trains every morning. Use to be a hobby but today it's therapy to face these times of stress. I'd like to see your layout. Please post a video for all us old trains lovers. Manufacturers make no difference.

I have gotten interested in prewar Lionel because Jim sold me one of his Lionel 226E's. However, I don't have the cars that go with it. I've been finding them and 99% are very rough. Plus, missing parts. Here is a video of some of the work I've been doing.

I just completed repairing/restoring a Lionel prewar 226E. Jim sent me some cars for it that needed attention. Here is a video of how far I've gotten with this project. Prewar Lionel are allot of fun. Parts are getting hard to find but most are available.

Thought I'd share my eBay Lionel Prewar 226E nightmare. Be careful trying to save money on old toy trains. it's best to buy a good one from the start.

General Discussion / Terry’s unboxing video
« on: April 19, 2023, 05:35:38 AM »
Hello Terry. Just saw your unboxing video. Great job on the video and great buy on the auction you won. I wish I knew more about prewar Lionel. Jim has me hooked on prewar 226E’s. I now have two and they are super runner’s. I really enjoy them.

I thought I got a great buy when I won a 226E for a little over two bucks. It needed a steam chest. Once I got the 226E is was a real mess. Not well described. Had more problems than I thought or I would have never bid on it. My 200 dollar 226E ended up costing me $ 514.27. For that much I could have bought one with boxes. I went into all this to say the seller did a very bad job packing the 226E. The package was protected very well around the outside but the engine & tender were right beside one another. Just a piece of cardboard separated them. USPS played football with the package. When I got it the tender shell was cracked very badly.

Anyway -  liked your video on youtube with the auction you won.

Thanks for the input Terry. Jim seems to think they maybe a department store set. I sent them to Jim for him to decide what they may be?

When I find out I’ll post it here.

This morning I got the second 248 Box Cab Electric completed and the 603 & 604 cars in order.

I'm really happy with this set. This will be next year's Christmas tree train set. If I'm still alive.

The single dome tank cars are my favorite. The look so nice when done. The flying shoe are the best. Trucks are real good.

Jim made me a transition car using a Lionel 6555 single dome tank car. This idea was to replace the TT-162 with the new car. I'm wanting to pull 14 single dome metal tank cars and my layout is not that big. However, it should work. With the Lionel coupler adapter (TT-162) the 226E worked out great pull the tank cars. But with the 6555-transition car I had trouble. I think there were three problems that gave me the trouble.

1. 226E tenders box coupler is higher than a postwar coupler.
2. Pulling the 14 metal single dome tank cars have to go through two 90 degree 031 cures and a 45 degree 031 curve.
3. The transition cars (6555) postwar coupler was lower and didn't mate up well with the car behind it.

I made a video of the fix. Biggest thing I did was add allot of lead inside the tank of the 6555.

Thanks Jim. If you can get the motor to work I would like to have your frame & 248 body.
