Layouts / Re: Terry's American OO layout 1934-40
« on: June 30, 2024, 04:00:12 AM »
First I have had a chance to see this ambitious project. I always wanted to build a 3 rail Lionel OO layout, but never got past a single loop as part of larger O gauge layouts. Is there any progress to report, would like to see it if so.

Good call that the odd boxed set is from Madison as it is more likely they would have the 1930's to 40's set box labels on hand in 1963 than Lionel would still have them.

Lionel originally stamped the 3659 bins from steel, but found they were too heavy for the solenoid to tip with a load. They switched to aluminum to solve the problem and used the surplus steel bins as 106 accessory bins.

Unfortunately there seems to be a "dark side" to everything these days. If the people who engineered these scams focused their attention on something legal and worth-while, they might make something of their selves. It is a shame, but will likely get worse.

Sounds suspicious if the seller won't answer questions or provide more pictures.

A recent one that I got was from a supposed police association in Illinois looking for donations to buy safety equipment. I still have an Illinois cell number, but we haven't lived in Illinois since 2006. There is no end to scams, especially on the elderly, which I am on the edge of...........wish I was still on "the edge of 17" as Stevie Nicks said.

If I had saved empty packages from everything we buy at Walmart, it would show that everything is getting smaller but more expensive.....shrink-flation.

How does that scam work for the hacker with all the Ebay "protections and rules"? A buyer would be protected if he paid for an item then never got it. The hacker might get away with it once, then ebay would shut them down. Maybe I am mis-understanding this, but I don't see how it can be successful for the hacker.

They didn't pass the shake and sniff test, but did look like the Halle's Department store cars, maroon with cream inserts. The cars are restored, a nice job including lettering, so whoever did them must have been aware of the set and restored them to look like the Halle's 607 cars. A Maroon 252 completes the set. I had the original boxed set and it is the example in GB's prewar book, but no longer own it.

Good to see there is still interest in restoring and repairing trains.

Nice how to video Jack.

Yes a time machine would come in useful, but it would have to come with a trailer to hold all the stuff we would buy.
