I don't know where it went. It went for a boatload of money though. I think that was the second to the last of the small 8/10 passenger sets my dad added to the collection. The last set was the pea green 8 with 3 cars. We never had the peacock 8 set, although when I was in high school, someone brought a boxed set over to be rewheeled. My dad fixed it and told the owner to call him if he ever wanted to sell. The call never came.
There was another guy in the 1970s and into the '80s who had an olive 8 freight set with an olive 513 cattle car. The owner would call my dad every year trying to get $250 for the set. My dad wanted the cattle car bad, but the set just wasn't worth $250.
Over the years my dad would say to me, "The guy with the 8 called again." I knew exactly who he was talking about. The greedy owner tortured him for years. Then my dad bought a cattle car for $20 or something, and told the man he didn't want the set anymore. I remember my dad laughing about it.
The first 8 set was a boxed with setbox olive loco and two cars. It came from the Lambertville flea market in the later 1960s. I gave the set to my sister's boy so he'd have a train to remember his grandfather.
