Kokomo Electricar

Wasn't quite sure where to put this, but this seemed almost logical. Nice catalog for sale on eBay showing multiple American Flyer sets and toys but what I found of interest is this electric race car set showing the power derived from a fence. Not sure how that is accomplished, but an interesting toy.

I put this post into it's own thread.

KOKOMO Electricar

I owned one of those. I bought it on eBay back in the days when you could see everything listed. I was curious about it and it was cheap. I think about $80 for the set in a torn box.

The fence is wood posts with the two strips, and makes about a 3 foot circle. I ran my car with a Lionel transformer, but it wouldn't run on the shag carpet, and the rubber wheels had gotten so hard the just slipped. I put a blue rubber band from broccoli on one tire so it had tractions.

They made red and yellow cars. They also made a construction set that built a car or a truck that is much harder to find. The race cars have drivers made of lithographed tin that are often missing.

One of the Tucson guys set up two circles at a meet years ago and let us race them. I wrote an article about these years ago, but my toys website is gone.

Here's a great selection of them that sold in a live auction:

Here's something else that's a little newer, but just as fascinating. Product Miniatures Operating Bulldozer. I bought one of these decades ago at a flea market for $10, played with it for a while, and then sold it.

Thanks Terry. Very Interesting, so it had a pick-up arm that attached or rode along the fence. I checked out a couple of the auctions on liveauctioneers but I can't really tell.

It's a beam that goes all the way accoss with two wipers on the end. The beam is mounted on the spindles so it moves back and forth with the wheels. My yellow car had a beam that could be reversed so you could change the direction of travel. Or maybe the wipers came off so you could put them on the other end of the beam?

Here's some red cars on eBay that show the front beam.
