TINPLATE RR STATIONS.
« on: January 11, 2021, 01:44:24 PM »
Post your stations here if you have any, If you want.

I will start with my Marx Grand Central Station #2940.
This was given to me by my Father, someone gave it to him he said it was going to be trashed.
Looking at some on ebay right now mine is in good shape.

I took it all apart cleaned it up with soapy warm water then polished it with Meguiars polishing compound.

I think mine is an early station 1938? It only has a center mounted light. Future ones I think had the two side mounted lights inside?

Mine is missing one sign and the windows.

I added some tabs I had laying around into the window holes, they have a green tint to them.

The original windows for the Marx Grand Central would be red plastic. Yours looks nice, especially lit-up. This and the other Marx "cookie-sheet" accessories are great pieces.

Yeah, I tried a red one but liked the green better.  :)
I won 5 boxes of these in a junk lot I won.
The guy was not sure what they were but tossed them in the lot because they looked old.
I think they were used for page tabs/markers? Not sure.
I have a box of yellow, 2 boxes of green and 2 boxes of red tabs.

These,

MARX #1430 UNION STATION.

Mine sits on a shelf with a few vehicles on it.
Too small for O?
This was one pulled from the dump from my bro in law. I didn't even try to clean this up.
It is missing the crossing gate and the mail box and is in weathered shape.  :)
Not sure of the year, 1930's?
I was told that they made different Union Stations and it was offered in the 1930's with a #1430 as the identifier.
Apparently some versions have no slots in the roof, and others had slots for what appears to be a roof sign.

O scale trains in the pictures.

This station shows Louis Marx's "license to manipulate scales", which as tinplate train collectors, we see a lot of. The small station was sold separate and also included in at least 2 wind-up train set. It is sized for HO and the litho track image is HO, but the depression in front of the station is sized for 027 track to go across it. LM used this form for other buildings, including a gas station and an airport.
