How long will a D cell last?

Do your red Marx passenger cars in the back ground have lights in them?

Answers to questions:
Only 1 of those red passenger cars is illuminated
Not sure how long a battery would last, future experiment perhaps
I did not add weight to the locomotive, it sits on a metal chassis, but overall not that heavy
