I didn't see the transformer picture. . .

That transformer will work to run the train, but don't leave it unattended as there is no circuit breaker in it. Check the cord before plugging it in. You use posts BU or AU to run the train. Try BU first and then switch to AU if the train is too slow.

The best small transformer for running one O gauge train is the RW. It's cheap at 30-40, and easy to work. If you buy a transformer on eBay make sure it's guaranteed.

The one you posted a picture of will work. The RW is a good used postwar transformer. You can get them on eBay.

You really should get the TCA Lionel Trains Standard of the World book. It will help you navigate the Lionel prewar numbering system, so there are no surprises when you buy something. Jim

Its all about having fun, as long as you are, go for it.
I tend to buy trains now, if I think they would be good in a video. It used to be only a collecting thing, now I like to see everything run.

I collect early period Lionel "O" gauge and I run everything from 703's to a Quaker to 150's.  I can't take it with me, my kids have no interest in "Dad's trains", so I do what pleases me. And there's nothing wrong with that!

This is my latest. It's a 152 in grey with gold handrails AND a reverse like a 153! I used to have an olive green 152 with a reverse but not with gold handrails.

That's WONDERFUL. I've not seen a 152 in gray with wire handrails before.

I have a few gray 152s but all have stamped handrails. I also have a gray 153 with no reverse - the holes have paint in them - and stamped handrails.

I just got this in the mail today. The seller described it as a dark olive loco, but it's dark gray. I don't have any dark olive locos with stamped handrails.  Here it is with a common dark olive pullman for color comparison:

It's a dark gray 153 with stamped nickel handrails and type 5 motor with brush tubes.

I have the same loco in light gray with brass handrails and a type 4 motor with riveted brushes. The light gray one might be a 152 misnumbered as it has no reverse and looks to have never had one.

Here's the two gray 153s side by side:

Here's a top down view to comp[are the colors again.

I know the 153 can be found in gray with wire handrails because there is one shown in the most recent Greenberg book.

thanks.  I would like to add a 811 car and another 812 or 816. Just can't find them at the moment.   I will probably mount it on rail and put it on a nice shelf once I get it complete.  Don't really have the room for a layout.

The 253 looks great. I like it allot. What is a steamer. I can't get the picture big enough to read it. 258 maybe?
