Lionel 2330 GG1 Electric Loco 1950

Boxed 2330 GG1 loco
2330 Instruction sheet.

This is a gorgeous GG1. Made only in 1950 and only in Dark Green. Note the instruction sheet has a picture of the toy train which was not the usual Lionel practice. There is also a green card that says the loco is equipped with two motors.

This green card with two motor information is usually missing. The green card is dated 11-50 and the instruction sheet is from 10-50.

This wonderful locomotive has only the faintest of wear in the center area from being picked up. The stripes are rubber stamped on the body and are frequently worn off. This example is very nice.

Just a light bit of wear to the stripes.
Box end is clearly labeled 2330X. The X probably means this loco was not originally sold as part of a set and the box would have included a tube of lubricant and a CTC lockon.
The box is dated September 1950. The 9th month is Setember, and that is the last number removed from the series. The instruction sheet is from November 1950 so this loco was packed no earlier than November 1950.
Unlike the earlier 2332 loco, the 2330 has a battery powered horn under one of the pilot trucks. This area needs to be checked when looking at any postwar GG1 except the 2332. This loco has no battery damage.
Original postwar “Bright Star No Leak Battery”
Surprise – the battery was made just down the road from the Lionel Factory in Clifton NJ.
